Chiropractor

John Prunty, DC

Dr. John Prunty is a licensed Chiropractor serving Mitchell and the surrounding communities. We are committed to promoting the optimal health and well being of patients using a "whole person approach".

This approach to wellness means looking for underlying causes of any disturbance or disruption (which may or may not be causing symptoms at the time) and make whatever interventions and lifestyle adjustments that would optimize the conditions for normal function. Using this unique approach, he is able to help you to accelerate and/or maintain your journey to good health.

I have lived in Mitchell since December 2001, when I married my wife (and Mitchell native), Melissa. We opened the practice that following February. We have 4 wonderful children, our twins: William and Adelyn, Olivia and Ava.

I am a native of Cherokee, Iowa where I grew up on a farm. I knew at the age of 13 that becoming a chiropractor would be my calling in life. I was having excruciating stomach pains while running track, but no-one, including my medical doctors, could come up with a reason why. After all the blood work, CAT scan, and every other specialist had failed to produce a reason, a family friend who was a chiropractor offered his help. It was determined that the injury was resulting from a nerve being pinched in the spine, causing the intense pain I was experiencing during heavy running sessions. I knew then that if a person could be capable of helping a body to heal itself without the use of medications or surgeries, then that was something that I wanted to be a part of.

I attended college at the University of South Dakota where I ran track, was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and met my wife, Melissa. After 3 years there, I received early acceptance into Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Bloomington, MN (now known as Northwestern Health Science University). I graduated from Northwestern in November 2001. I knew I wanted to own my own practice and we felt that Mitchell would be a great place for our new beginning. From the start, it has been a great decision. The people of Mitchell and the surrounding communities have been wonderful!

My chiropractic care may consist of manual adjustments, use of the Activator, drop-table adjusting, use of the Decompression Table, the Hydrotable, ultrasound, acupuncture, and/or stretching exercises, depending on the needs of the patient.

I have successfully treated patients of ALL ages suffering from the following conditions (though this is not an inclusive list): chronic pain, headaches, backaches, neck pain, sciatica, painful joints, jaw pain, shoulder pain, hip/leg/foot pain, digestive problems, sleeping problems (in newborns to adults), torticollis, bedwetting, ear infections, fibromyalgia, knee pain, hyperactivity, migraines, muscle weakness, bulging discs, and pain related to pregnancy. I love my job and the rewards of helping so many to lead active pain-free lifestyles!!

I am a member of the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce and have served as a Board Member for LifeQuest. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, flying RC model planes, weightlifting, a little fishing and pheasant hunting, boating, and motorcycling.

Chiropractor Mitchell SD Rylie Osthus Meet The Team

Chiropractor

Rylie Osthus, DC, ATC, CCSP

My name is Dr. Rylie Osthus, and I provide Chiropractic care to Mitchell and the surrounding communities. I am a recent graduate of Northwestern Health Sciences University of Bloomington, MN, where I received my Chiropractic Doctorate degree as well as an emphasis in sports chiropractic.

In addition to my Chiropractic degree, I also have my Athletic Training Certification.

I believe to achieve true "wellness" one must look into the cause of disease, and be proactive with our bodies to allow natural healing processes to occur. I like to take a dive into the functional movement of the body, and look to address any issues based on that assessment. I truly believe if one is proactive in their nutrition, mind health, and bodily function, we can live happier and more fulfilled lives.

I am a native of De Smet, South Dakota. In high school, I found a passion for sport, specifically basketball. Athletics is what first introduced me to chiropractic care. I suffered from low back pain as a young teenager, which seemed to only be helped by chiropractic care.

I attended college at Dakota Wesleyan University here in Mitchell, SD. I obtained by Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training while at DWU. I also played basketball on the women's basketball team from 2015-2019. Go Tigers! While at DWU, I truly found a love in chiropractic medicine. This is when I decided I wanted to pursue chiropractic, and help athletes as well as the general population with their health goals.

While I absolutely love treating athletes, I also love treating patients of all ages. My chiropractic care consists of manual (Diversified) adjustments, Activator adjusting, and drop-table adjusting. In our office, I also use therapies such as decompression, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, as well as rehabilitative exercises.

When I'm not in the office, I love to spend my time boating, hiking, and spending time with family and friends!
